For most months of the year, Senior Men's members are offered the chance to attend an informal, outside lunch after the meeting on the 4th Friday of the month. The lunches take place at different restaurants in New Canaan or nearby towns, and sometimes in the Summer, at places like the Stamford Yacht Club or the Woodway Beach Club. At lunch, attendees sit at only one or two tables, and have a conversational, interesting and fun time together - you drink what you like, pick your own meal, pay your own check - and really enjoy the camaraderie!
The June 27 luncheon will be at Woodway Beach Club. No credit cards accepted. Directions or Questions: call Don Tiefenthaler, 966-5794
We hope all new members will try it, at least once. We "regulars" are always ready for more of you!
Just to illustrate and emphasize the amusement involved in participating in this activity - be it regularly or only occasionally; your choice - we who participate are known in SMC as "The 4 F's." Even if you remember what that meant way back in past war time periods, the group assured some years back that "4-F's" should be known by a real name of our own. So - we voted on a host of proposed names that many SMC members suggested. We took our vote - but we were only able to narrow the choice to two! So take your choice:
The place where we go changes almost every month, and isn't decided on by the current director of the activity, until the first SMC meeting of a new month. Then on the 4th Friday, he arrives early and begins jotting down names of anyone who wants to come along that day. If needed, he supplies directions or a map to the restaurant. All you have to do is ask him, because it is very rare that there is any limit on how many can attend. Usually the group totals 15 to 20 members for one lunch. When that day's meeting is over, we take off, and meet again at the restaurant, along about noon.
One unintentional side effect of the 4Fs is that many of the restaurants we have patronized have later gone out of business. We are reasonably sure that it was not a direct effect.
