SPEAKER: Paul Stein introduced Keith Marshall, Director of Education of the New Canaan Nature Center. Keith says their mission is to teach "the value of nature in our modern world". Why does nature matter? It helps the body, mind spirit and soul appreciate the ultimate quality of life, when the modern world distracts you. An interesting discovery; children who spend more than 14 hours a week viewing nature show significantly less near-sightedness.
The N.C. Nature Center provides: public open space, community nature programs, unique invaluable resources. They wish to make it a community resource. The Learning Center is dedicated to all ages to introduce nature.
Keith then took us on a tour of the Center, featuring a demo of "birds of prey" and a live Black Snake constantly curling over his upper body. There were no volunteers to take over. We are urged to make use of this resource as it is quite remarkable.
