Minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 4, 2010

(Before the meeting, the membership viewed Jack Messert's slide shows of the Memorial Day Parade and the Swing to Spring party and Mike Allocca's photos of the Botanical Gardens trip.)

President Nick Zaccagnino opened the meeting with 111 of 473 members present.

NEW MEMBER(S): Joel Pelzner introduced new member, Harry Steele, and Roger Colson introduced new member, Peter Keller.

GUEST(S): Chani Sra introduced his guest, Dr. Bajaj.

MINUTES: Don Hudson read the minutes of May 21, 2010.

MEMBERSHIP ASSISTANCE: No news.

ANNOUNCEMENTS were made: June 5-6 - Greenwich Concours d'Elegance; Sunday, June 6, 4PM - Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social. Nick showed a few cartoons from the membership.
     Nick reported that Clark Robinson served as the Parade Grand Marshall of the Wilton Memorial Day Parade and referred to the feature multi-page presentation in the Wilton Bulletin, which cited Clarks' heroic experiences in the Air Force, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. The membership rendered a standing ovation for Clark.
The status and plans were reported for various activities and couth trips:

ACTIVITIES: Bridge - As usual. 4-F Luncheon - Friday, 6/25, at Woodway Beach Club. Amateur Chefs - Thursday, 6/24; lobster fest - Thursday, 7/15. Bike Club - Rode safely last week. Golf - 6/14 Ridgefield Golf Course; 6/30 Whitney Farms; 7/6 Sterling Farms. Tennis - As usual. Racquetball - (4-3-?). Trailblazers - Wednesday, 6/16, three NYC sites: World Trade Center, Hudson River Park, and High Line Park, leaving the New Canaan train station at 8:49.

COUTH: Thursday, 6/17, Belmont Park, $70/pp; departure at 10 AM. Wednesday, 11/3, Broadway: Le Gage Aux Folles. $160/person with dinner.

HUMORIST: Russ Kinne told the story of a travel photographer who, on short notice, had to fly to Dallas. Upon arrival he realized he needed a haircut and went to a Barbershop, which used machines for hair cutting and other services. Upon selecting a machine for men whose wives did not accompany them on a trip, he cried out in pain when the machine sewed a button on him.

SPEAKER: Vice President, John McKay introduced Richard Colangelo, Senior Assistant State's Attorney in the Judicial District of Stamford and Norwalk, who spoke about the challenges faced by the state's attorney's office and shared his experiences of 17 years as a prosecutor.
      Colangelo addressed various issues, including: drunk driving, sexual assault cases, DNA, and narcotics. He also addressed car jacking, home invasion and burglary, domestic violence and physical abuse, manslaughter and murder.
      The Q&A session addressed: plea-bargaining and forfeiture, bullying, sentencing, and compensation for overturned cases. In closing, Colangelo described the current trends with the Internet and social networks (referred to as "sexting"), a great concern for kids and parents.
